Road closure set for bridge project

Work on the Ga. 53 bridge replacemen­t project over the Chestatee River will affect drivers in Forsyth and Hall counties Wednesday night. With crews pouring another concrete support structure for the new span, a westbound right-hand travel lane will be shut down from 7 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday.

The closing will be between Dogwood Trail and Little Hall Park. Traffic control will be in place to guide drivers around the constructi­on.

Tonight’s work is part of a larger project under which an out-of-date 1956 bridge is being replaced and just over two-thirds of a mile of the roadway will be re-aligned. The work should be finished in 2019. for planting in the South. Purchased from a Hawkinsvil­le tree farm, the tree currently measures 24 feet tall and will stand about 50 feet tall at full maturity. City staff has prepared the planting area by installing a small retaining wall.
