Suspect in double homicide identified

Riverdale authoritie­s have identified the shooter in the Jan. 13 double homicide in a parking lot near Walmart.

Police say Deanthony Joseph Ealey got into the rear passenger seat of a Malibu occupied by Aaliyah Royal, 18, and Cameron Woods,19. Within minutes, Ealey shot and killed Royal and Woods, police said. The shootings occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart on Ga. Hwy 85. Woods was a student at Jonesboro High School.

Ealey is a black man with brown eyes and black hair who is about 6’4” tall and weights about 194 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous. If spotted, call 911. Anyone with informatio­n about Ealey’s whereabout­s should contact the Clayton

Sheriff’s office warns residents of phone scam

The Fayette County Sheriff ’s Office issued a fraud alert Tuesday after receiving a report of a phone scam.

A resident recently got a phone call from someone claiming to be a DirecTV employee, and the caller ID appeared to be from the company’s toll-free number. The caller asked the homeowner to buy an Amazon gift card to make a DirecTV payment or risk service suspension.

The sheriff ’s office warns that “spoof ” callers can use apps to mimic other phone numbers and recommends that homeowners verify any payment requests by calling their providers directly,
