Memorial Park now has new playground

-

The city of Atlanta and the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy unveiled the new playground at Memorial Park on Jan. 27.

The city of Atlanta committed $200,000 towards the project with an additional $200,000 raised by the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy through a combination of private donations including an anonymous donation of $100,000 and a Legacy Grant award from Park Pride.

The new playground blends seamlessly into the tree-filled landscape of Memorial Park and features many fun and playful elements. Using natural tones, the play equipment from Landscape Structures offers two areas of play, one geared towards 2-5 year olds and the other for 5-12 year olds. A special feature of the playground, a PlayWeb designed by Playworld, is for ages 5 and up.

“The city of Atlanta believes in quality parks and we are going to do more and more just like this one,” said Mayor Kasim Reed during the ceremony. “One of our goals is to make sure that everyone in the city of Atlanta, no matter where they live, is within a half mile walk of a park, nature preserve or green space.”

Looking forward, the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy will continue its collaborative efforts with the city of Atlanta and the surrounding neighborhoods to focus on connectivity, green space and the watershed in and around the park to ensure the sustainability, enjoyability and usability of this park for generations to come.
