Q: In reading the article about voter fraud in a recent AJC, I’m a registered voter, but I forgot what it takes to be a registered voter. Do you have to prove citizenship? —Jim Dillon, Atlanta
A: To be eligible to vote in Georgia, a person must be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of the county in which they are registering and 18 years old (17.5 years old when registering).
Additionally, a voter cannot be serving a felony sentence or declared mentally incompetent by a judge, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
When registering, applicants must provide their driver’s license number, state-issued ID number or the last four digits of their Social Security number, then sign an oath that the citizenship and eligibility information they provide is accurate.
Giving false information when registering to vote is a felony, the application states.
Q: Lake Lanier is 10 feet below full pool. What can the Corps of Engineers do to get it to full pool before summer? — Al Cooper, Atlanta
A: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is operating the lake in a conservative manner, only releasing the minimum amount of water necessary to meet water quality and water supply requirements downstream, spokesman E. Patrick Robbins told Q&A on the News in an email.
“Outside of that, any refill before summer is totally dependent on rainfall within the watershed serving the lake,” he wrote.
