Utility pole inspections cost $150K annually
The Lawrenceville City Council approved a contract Monday to provide inspection services for the city’s 4,000 utility poles. It is anticipated that 800 wooden poles will be inspected per year. Replacement of unacceptable poles will primarily be done by the city electric department or, if necessary, by contractor.
The $150,000 contract awarded to Southeastern Wood Pole Inspectors is funded by the Contract Labor Fund. This is the first of four renewal options. There is no increase in price.
City working to become City of Ethics
of becoming a City of Ethics. To earn a Certified City of Ethics designation from the Georgia Municipal Association, a city must take two actions.
First they must adopt a resolution establishing five ethics principles for conduct by city officials: Serve others, not themselves. Use resources with efficiency and economy. Treat all people fairly. Use the power of their position for the well-being of constituents.
Create an environment of honesty, openness and integrity.
The second action requires the adoption of an ethics ordinance containing definitions, an enumeration of permissible and impermissible activities by elected officials, due process procedures for elected officials charged with a violation of the ordinance, and punishment provisions for those elected officials found in violation of the ordinance.
The six-process to meet these requirements should culminate in June with the City of Ethics designation presented at the GMA annual conference.
City to unveil ‘Sweet Life’ mural installation
The Sugar Hill Arts Commission will unveil the city’s new art installation during a ceremony at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at the east-facing exterior wall of the former City Hall, 4988 West Broad St.
The building now functions as The Suite Spot, a business incubator and co-working space that will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the ribbon cutting. The mural depicts local artist Jennie Osiek’s interpretation of the city’s slogan, “The Sweet Life.”
The project was a collaborative effort among the Downtown Development Authority, Arts Commission, the Historic Preservation Society, the Youth Council and The Sugar Hill Business Alliance.
