Atlanta watershed manager charged with DUI at work

Security specialist reports drunken worker in truck.

Atlanta Watershed is investigating one of its managers after police said he arrived at work so drunk he couldn’t even stand up.

On a recent Friday, police found Johnny Brown slumped in the seat of a truck after he had pulled into the employee parking lot and took up two spaces, according to a police report.

Security specialist Leon Alexander called authorities about 8:15 p.m. Feb. 17, suspecting Brown was drunk.

The keys were still in the ignition as officers tried to rouse Brown and a strong aroma of alcohol permeated the air, the officer wrote.

Brown stumbled out of the vehicle after officers woke him and nearly fell several times.

He was unable or unwilling to speak clearly, the report stated.

“These are very serious allegations that we are investigating to the fullest,” Watershed spokeswoman Lillian Govus told Channel 2 Action News.

The police report does not state whether the truck Brown drove was a commercial vehicle, but Brown had a previous commercial DUI from 2015.

Brown was arrested on DUI charges and taken to Atlanta’s city jail, where he remained Tuesday.

“We take very extensive measure to ensure that our employees are safe in the workplace and out on the roads. And we want our rate payers and the Atlanta community to know that,” Govus told Channel 2.
