THREE LOCAL PRODUCTS WE LOVE

This week, we’re sugaring up on a citrusy soda, getting wild with Georgia honey and doing The Twist with garlic. Here’s what we’re stocking up on right now.

Kickapoo Joy Juice

Those old enough to remember Kickapoo soda from their childhood can get a kick out of seeing Kickapoo on local shelves again. Atlanta-based Monarch Beverages Co., maker of Kickapoo-brand drinks, is reintroducing the soft drinks it debuted back in 1965. Among these fun sippers, we’re keen on the citrus-spiked Joy Juice. Made with real sugar and with a bright lime-yellow color, the carbonated drink tastes like a cross between Squirt and Sprite. Prices vary. Available at Rocket Fizz in Decatur and Marietta, Mac’s Beer and Wine in Midtown, H-Mart in Suwanee and Sherlock’s in Kennesaw. Or use the Kickapoo Locater to find the nearest retailer.

Garlic Twister

If you’re a garlic press kind of cook, check out GarlicTwister, a hand-held garlic mincer recently introduced to the market. To use this compact, two-piece tool, simply place the garlic cloves inside and twist. You get uniformly minced garlic every time. Clean-up of the polycarbonate gadget is easy whether washing by hand or in the dishwasher. $19.95, thegrommet.com.

Bee Wild Honey

North Georgia honey producer Bee Wild was recently named a 2017 Good Food Awards winner, honored for both its 100-percent Pure and Raw Sourwood Honey. Yet we’re especially enjoying the sweet heat from its newest product, Devil’s Advocate, which infuses dry, smoked ghost pepper into its raw honey. Chicken wings, glazed ham, cheese plates, roasted veggies, salad dressings – the buzzworthy applications for this honey are many. $14.99, beewild.buzz.
