City reviews bicycle, pedestrian survey
The Duluth City Council met Monday for a work session that included a review of an Atlanta Regional Commission initiated a program to evaluate and provide input to walking and biking in the region.
Duluth was one of three cities chosen for the pilot program last fall.
This initiative was born out of the ARC’s 2016 regional bicycle and pedestrian plan: “Walk. Bike.Thrive! a regional vision for a more walkable, bike-able, and livable metropolitan Atlanta.”
The program consisted of conducting a half-day workshop identifying key issues related to walking and biking in the community.
The ARC has evaluated these items and provided a draft report to the city, which includes observations and recommendations.
The workshop included a community tour of walking and bicycling facilities in Duluth including Downtown Duluth/Main Street, West Lawrenceville St., Buford Highway, Brock Road, Park Drive, Parsons Alley, Hill St. and the City Hall Plaza.
The purpose of the community workshop program is to assist communities to apply for national Walk and/or Bike Friendly Community designations from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Information Center and the League of American Bicyclists, and future grants related to alternative transportation options.
