Jets plan to release wideout Marshall

A person with direct knowledge of the team’s decision told The Associated Press that the New York Jets are releasing wide receiver Brandon Marshall, clearing $7.5 million on the salary cap.

Marshall is the latest bigname player to be cut by the Jets, who have also parted ways with Darrelle Revis and Nick Mangold this offseason. Newsday reported that Marshall asked for his release — and was granted his request — after weighing his options, including New York being interested in having him return next season.

Marshall played two seasons for the Jets, and set franchise records with 109 catches and 1,502 yards receiving. He had just 59 receptions for 788 yards and three TDs last season.

Saints: Are in trade discussions regarding wide receiver Brandin Cooks, according to ESPN. The report stated the Eagles and Titans are two interested suitors for Cooks, and that the Titans are the more likely of the two to be able to complete a deal.

Cooks, 23, has had back-toback 1,000-yard campaigns, with 78 catches for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns last season. The 5-foot-10, 189-pounder is known for his big-play speed — he ran a 4.33-second 40 at the combine three years ago.

Cowboys: Defensive end DeMarcus Ware is eyeing a return to Dallas to bookend his career, a source told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Ware, who will be 35 next season, is a free agent after playing the past three seasons in Denver, where he won a Super Bowl in 2015. Ware spent his first nine years with the Cowboys.
