Signs help businesses survive constructi­on

The Snellville City Council voted recently to allow a moratorium on temporary signage to be lifted during the constructi­on of the displaced left turn at State Route 124/ Scenic Highway and U.S. 78. The moratorium ends at midnight Sept. 15, 2018.

A permit must be applied for and approved by the city’s Planning Department. Restrictio­ns apply to type and size of temporary signge. Informatio­n: www.snellville.org.

Georgia Department of Transporta­tion has condemned numerous parcels of land and been granted easements in the area surroundin­g the intersecti­on which may force many businesses to remove previously approved monument and pylon signage.

City allows owner’s zoning request

Benny Sims of Inland Sims Developmen­t LLC. owns a little over 19 acres along Satellite Boulevard just northeast of Smithtown Road/Sawmill Drive intersecti­on. The land is in unincorpor­ated Gwinnett and will be annexed into Suwanee city limits and zoned for light industrial use thanks to city council approval of an annexation and rezoning request made by the owner. The land is adjacent to another eight acres he owns that already lies within city limits.

The property includes an existing 35,000-square-foot industrial building and gravel and paved parking areas. A portion of the building is already within city limits. Sims is proposing the constructi­on of
