Coaches cited for minor violations

The football program reported three minor NCAA violations in November and December, one of them involving Rocker.

Last September, during a non-contact recruiting period, two Georgia assistant coaches called a recruit and the recruit’s father. Both calls lasted a minute. The identity of only Rocker, then the defensive line coach, is listed in the report, which was provided via an open-records request.

A letter of admonishment was given to Rocker, who it is noted was not scheduled to make a call to the recruit “the week in question.” As further self-punishment, the football team was prohibited from calling the recruit (also unidentified) from Nov. 13-26.

The violation was reported Nov. 29, the same day another violation was reported. In that one, the guest of a recruit took photos during an unofficial visit and posted them to a “media entity’s website.” The media website is not identified.

A written notice was given to the photographer, who was prohibited from receiving any more complimentary tickets as a guest of the recruit, and she would not be issued any media credentials, according to the report.

Finally, on Dec. 14 the school reported that a non-coaching staffer returned a call to a high school coach to discuss the eligibility of a recruit. Georgia agreed to provide “rules education to the staff regarding permissible telephone calls,” according to the report. The staff member in question (again not identified) was prohibited from receiving calls from that recruit or anyone affiliated with him for 30 days. The entire coaching staff was prohibited from contacting the recruit “using any means” over the next seven days.

Rocker was the only person identified in the documents provided.
