Schools name new administra­tors

At a recent Cherokee County School Board meeting, officials praised retiring administra­tor Susan McCarthy for her lifetime of service, rising from classroom teacher and Teacher of the Year to assistant principal, principal, district leader and most recently, assistant superinten­dent for educationa­l programs.

McCarthy will be succeeded by Nicole Holmes, promoted from director of elementary school operations and whose new title will be chief academic officer. Holmes, in turn, will be succeeded by Beth P. Long, currently principal of the Canton Elementary School STEM Academy.

The board also named Christina Clayton to be supervisor of digital content; Amy Chaffin, supervisor of middle and high school curriculum; Linda Wallace, supervisor of federal programs; Melissa Sneed, supervisor of special education; Karla Tipton, supervisor of technology support services; Chris Saxon,

Senior Services offers aid to eligible seniors

Cobb Senior Services offer many programs and services to help seniors and caregivers in need.

Staff is accepting applicatio­ns now for financial assistance to help low-income seniors, 55 years old and older, who need help with eviction notices, utility disconnect­ions or prescripti­on assistance.

Seniors, who are 55 or older and need assistance with transporta­tion to doctor and medical treatment appointmen­ts, may be eligible to receive free bus passes that can be used to help with the cost of riding CobbLinc, CobbLinc ParaTransi­t and FLEX bus service.

The Share the Care program provides temporary support and relief to family caregivers who are caring for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s-related dementia or chronic health conditions such as failure to thrive, stroke, multiple sclerosis, endstage COPD or end-stage renal disease.
