RaceTrac approved for renovations
The Duluth City Council voted earlier this month to allow the RaceTrac at 2596 Pleasant Hill Road to renovate and update the convenience store and gas station. The request made by Andersen, Tate & Carr on behalf of Mountainprize, doing business as RaceTrac, was approved with conditions.
The convenience store will be updated to a new company prototype. It will have a more community activity center feeling. The purpose of the modification is to remodel the existing building to include new signage, a new façade, a walk-in cooler and kitchen, along with an extension for outdoor eating.
The council expressed some concerns about the company’s request for updated signage, but agreed to the proposed monument signage and not the cabinet design. The approved signage would remain a total area of 150 square feet, but the inside portion with gas prices will be larger.
The store will be shut completely for a minimum of 45 days to complete the renovation.
City votes to keep sculpture for collection
Suwanee citizens have voted and selected “The Herd” by Phil Proctor as the 2015-2017 Suwanee SculpTour People’s Choice winner. The Suwanee Public Arts Commission, using donated funds, will purchase the eight goats that reside in the cemetery at the corner of Buford Highway and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, making them the newest additions to Suwanee’s art collection.
“The Herd” isn’t the only sculpture being given an extended stay. Fan favorites “Dancer XX” by Jack Howard-Potter, and ‘Friends’ by Nnamdi Okonkwo have been retained for a second round of SculpTour. The artists of these two pieces were selected as prize winners by the Public Art Commission, along with: “Corey” by Jonanthan Bowling, ‘Sunflower Gate’ by Andrew T. Crawford, ‘Love Hurts’ by Benson Sculpture and “The Three Muses” by Hanna Jubran.
