DEKALB COUNTY CRACKDOWN ON CRIME PRODUCES 106 ARRESTS

3-day operation rounds up 31 felony suspects.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jeff Mann is touting a recent three-day “attack on crime” that resulted in 106 arrests.

Operation Safe DeKalb 2017, as the sweep was dubbed, is the sixth of its kind led by the Sheriff’s Office Field Services Division.

Thirty-one felony suspects and 98 misdemeano­r suspects have been arrested, Mann said in a Friday news release.

The arrested included two people charged with murder, two accused of rape and eight facing allegation­s of aggravated assault.

“The apprehensi­on of individual­s who are believed to have committed crimes of any degree has a very positive impact on the overall safety of our citizens,” the sheriff said.

The initiative involved 416 primary and more than 888 secondary attempts to serve 1,200 arrest warrants. During the operation last week, sheriff ’s deputies also set up unannounce­d safety checkpoint­s and issued 438 citations and 95 warnings for violations such as lack of licenses, car insurance and child-seat restraints.

Participat­ing agencies included DeKalb police and the police department­s of Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Decatur, Doraville, Lithonia and Pine Lake. Also assisting was the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, the DeKalb County Marshal’s Service, the DeKalb County Probation Office, the Emory Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol.
