New chairman named for Elder Abuse Task Force
The North Georgia/Cobb Elder Abuse Task Force has a new chairman.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Jason Marbutt with the Cobb Judicial Circuit has replaced Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds, the chairman and facilitator of the task force since 2013 until his resignation.
An active participant in the task force for several years, Marbutt, a statewide subject matter expert in the prosecution of elder crimes, has plans to reorganize the task force to better accommodate the group’s rapid growth, according to a task force statement. Reynolds will remain a member of the task force as the group moves to build upon his contributions during the formative years, raising awareness about elder abuse.
Created in 2009 by the Cobb Neighborhood Safety Commission, the task force was transitioned to the Cobb District Attorney’s Office in 2013. The task force has grown from six to more than 100 volunteer members, representing a cross-section of agencies and residents who work regularly with seniors in the community to facilitate collaboration to address elder abuse.
Anyone aware of senior adults, who may be victims of elder abuse, are asked by the task force to call the tip line of Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
All tips are anonymous and could result in a cash reward if the tip results in an arrest or indictment. The appropriate law enforcement or regulatory agency will be notified and will investigate and address the inappropriate conditions and activity concerning elderly residents.
