Grad transfer picks Iowa State over Tech

- — KEN SUGIURA

Tech’s list of recruiting targets was reduced by one Friday. Princeton graduate transfer Hans Brase, who made an official visit to Tech last week, has selected Iowa State, according to two people familiar with his recruitment. The decision was first reported by FanRag Sports.

Brase offered the Yellow Jackets an experienced frontcourt player, albeit one returning from two consecutive seasons ended by knee injury, who could score, rebound and pass. But with Brase choosing Iowa State, Tech’s possibilities to add to its roster of 10 scholarship players may be down to Wheeler High forward Jordan Tucker, Jonesboro High guard M.J. Walker and forward Sidney Wilson from New York.

Tucker and Walker are ESPN top-50 prospects whom coach Josh Pastner and his staff have been recruiting for several months.

Wilson is a prospect who transferred to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire and reclassified himself as a junior but then reclassified himself back to senior standing in early May. He took an official visit to Connecticut this week. Tech is one of six schools that Wilson named as finalists last week, along with Connecticut, Florida, St. John’s, Syracuse and Texas. He is rated a four-star prospect by ESPN.

Tucker, who received a scholarship offer from Duke on Sunday, is expected to make his announcement on his school choice early next week, possibly Monday
