College basketball: Duke freshman Frank Jackson, who declared for the NBA draft last month but left open the possibilit­y of returning to school, is hiring an agent and will turn profession­al. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 10.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists last season.

■ Glen Williams, a star at St. John’s in the 1970s and a second-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks, died in New York on Tuesday of cancer. He was 63.

■ Pleased with recent changes that have boosted offense, the NCAA basketball rules committee chose not to propose any drastic moves for next season such as breaking the men’s game into four quarters, pushing back the 3-point line or widening the lane.

College football: Quarterbac­k Brandon Harris joined North Carolina as a graduate transfer from LSU.

■ Memphis extended head coach Mike Norvell’s contract through 2021.

■ Iowa said wide receiver Jerminic Smith left the program. Smith caught 23 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns in 2016, but was suspended for spring workouts because of academics.

Hockey: Veteran goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, 35, is joining Sweden at the ice hockey world championsh­ips in Europe following the New York Rangers’ recent eliminatio­n from the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Olympics: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said the city will consider hosting the 2028 Olympics if it isn’t awarded its first choice of 2024. The IOC’s evaluation commission concluded its four-day visit Friday and now heads to Paris, the only other bidder for the 2024 Games. The winning bidder will be announced in September.
