Taillon is sidelined indefinitely pending further test results.

Tests on tissue removed from Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jameson Taillon last week confirmed he has testicular cancer.

Pirates trainer Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Taillon will be re-evaluated next week before deciding the next course of treatment.

Taillon, 25, discovered an abnormality after going on the disabled list May 6. He had tissue surgically removed May 8.

Taillon, who is 2-1 with a 3.31 ERA in six starts for the Pirates, has been cleared to play catch and do light cardio but remains out indefinitely pending the outcome of further tests.

Marlins: Right-hander Junichi Tazawa was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to May 16 with rib cartilage inflammation, and Mike Aviles was designated for assignment. The Marlins also added infielder Christian Colon to the roster after claiming him off waivers from Kansas City and recalled pitchers Brian Ellington and Odrisamer Despaigne from Triple-A New Orleans.

Athletics: Reliever John Axford is likely to make two more rehab appearances with Triple-A Nashville before the A’s consider activating the right-hander from the disabled list. Axford has yet to pitch in the majors this season due to a strained right shoulder but could make his debut on Oakland’s upcoming homestand.

Giants: Closer Mark Melancon (strained elbow) was activated from the 10-day DL. “He’s adamant that he’s ready to go,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “He’s our closer, why wouldn’t we want to go ahead and activate him?”

Cubs: Joe Maddon, 63, became the eighth active manager with at least 1,000 wins after Tuesday night’s victory over the Reds. He started his coaching career in the minors with the Angels and served as the interim manager of the major league club on two occasions before taking over Tampa Bay. He is in his third season with the Cubs after guiding Chicago to a World Series title last year.

Mets: New York went 0-6 in Milwaukee and Arizona, the team’s longest winless trip since 1999.

Angels: Albert Pujols had three RBIs in Tuesday night’s win to move into sole possession of 11th place on baseball’s career RBI list with 1,847. Pujols, 37, broke a tie with Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski. Mel Ott is 10th with 1,864 RBIs.

Astros: Right-hander Lance McCullers has allowed no earned runs in his past three starts (20⅓ innings), lowering his ERA to 2.65.

Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw’s 20th victory against the Giants on Wednesday in San Francisco came in his 39th outing and 38th start of the rivalry — and he’s 12-4 with a 1.29 ERA at AT&T Park. He has allowed one or fewer walks in all but one of his starts.

Indians: Josh Tomlin allowed six runs in 2⅓ innings Wednesday as the ERA for Cleveland’s starters ballooned to a leaguehigh 5.17. In the past five games, Indians starters have a 9.14 ERA.

Tigers: Miguel Cabrera was a late scratch from the starting lineup Wednesday night against Baltimore because of a sore left side. A team spokesman said the first baseman was expected to have further testing.
