Q: Why is there such a long time between the Georgia 6th Congressional District primary and the runoff ? I thought all runoffs were three weeks after the primary. —Carol A. Canady, Villa Rica

A: Georgia’s federal election calendar was changed to comply with the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, which established a 45-day window for overseas voters to return ballots in federal elections. In 2013, U.S. District Judge Steve C. Jones ordered the state to extend the time for military residents and Georgians living abroad to return absentee ballots, the AJC has reported.

Karen Handel and Jon Ossoff are in a runoff for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, which is a federal race.

Q: Has President Donald Trump ever been to Camp David? —Robert H. Parrish Jr., Thomasville

A: The president has not visited Camp David, according to media reports.

The White House’s website describes Camp David, located in Catoctin Mountain Park in Frederick County, Md., as “the President’s country residence.” Presidents since FDR have used the rural retreat for “solitude, tranquility and a place to host foreign leaders.”

The president in May visited Trump National Golf Club in rural Bedminster, N.J., according to media reports.

“Trump is now expected to head for getaways to this 8,200-person township about 45 miles west of New York City, where his daughter, Ivanka, got married and which some here are already calling ‘Camp David North,’” the Washington Post reported in May.
