Ga. 92 to close for rail crossing repairs
A portion of Ga. 92, a busy sixlane highway in southern Cherokee County, is to be closed for a weekend in June for repairs to a railroad crossing in Woodstock.
Woodstock officials and the Georgia Department of Transportation say that weather permitting, Patriot Rail, owner of the Georgia Northeastern Railroad, will have Ga. 92 closed at the railroad from 11 p.m. June 16 until 5 a.m. June 19. In case of inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled for the weekend of June 23.
Eastbound motorists will detour right on Canton Highway, left on Piedmont Road, and left on Sandy Plains Road back to Ga. 92. Westbound drivers will turn right on Trickum Road, left on Arnold Mill Road (which changes names in downtown Woodstock to Towne Lane Parkway), and left on southbound I-575 to the Ga. 92 exit.

Public hearings on the proposed $130.2 million budget and millage rate levy are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on three dates – June 5, 12 and 19 – in the Council Chambers at Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza.
City officials say a total of $34 million is designated for capital investment, including $4.5 million for recurring, “pay as you go” capital initiatives. Projects include milling and resurfacing of streets, traffic signal repairs and maintenance, stormwater maintenance and other tasks.

Funds sought for road, Noonday Creek Trail
Formal requests for $15.8 million in federal funds, to improve two interchanges on I-575 and an intersection of Ga. 92 and to extend the Noonday Creek Trail, have been approved by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.
The Atlanta Regional Commission is accepting proposals for funding out of the federal Surface Transportation Block Grant Program, according to a report to commissioners by county Public Works Director Geoffrey E. Morton.
Cherokee is requesting $4.8 million for each of two I-575 interchange projects, at Towne Lake and Ridgewalk parkways; $3.2 million for intersection work at Ga. 92 and Trickum Road; and, on behalf of the city of Woodstock, $3 million to extend the Noonday Creek Trail to the Cobb County line.
The county promises to match the federal funds with Special Purpose Local Optional Sales Tax monies of $1.2 million for each of the I-575 interchanges and $3 million for the Ga. 92 project. Woodstock has pledged a 20 percent match for the trail funding.
County now agrees with annexation
First disagreeing with the annexation request, now the Cobb County Board of Commissioners agrees with the annexation of a 4.19-acre tract into Smyrna. The property at the corner of Fontaine and the East-West Connector is to become 15 detached units at 3.58 units per acre in a single-family subdivision.
Since city officials have lowered the density, commissioners voted 5-0 recently to approve the annexation.
