Player was sidelined last month for first time in his career.

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed first baseman Adrian Gonzalez on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday because of discomfort in his lower back.

Gonzalez was removed from Sunday’s game against Cincinnati after going hitless in three at-bats. He said he has two herniated disks.

Gonzalez was also on the DL last month for the first time in his 14-year career after he tried to play through back and elbow injuries.

Gonzalez, 35 and a fivetime All-Star, is batting .255 with one home run and 23 RBIs in 49 games.

Also, outfielder Joc Pederson was reinstated from the seven-day concussion DL.

Mets: Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was placed on the 10-day disabled with a left thumb sprain.

Red Sox: Third baseman Pablo Sandoval’s return to his starting position has been slowed since he missed a month with a sprained right knee. He didn’t start for the third straight game Monday and has started eight since he was activated off the 10-day DL on May 30, batting just .185 with a homer.

Twins: Right-handed reliever Ryan Pressly was recalled from Triple-A and right-hander Alex Wimmers was sent down. Twins relievers have a 5.55 ERA, by far the worst in the majors.

Astros: Right fielder Josh Reddick crashed into the wall Monday while trying to catch a ball hit by Texas’ Joey Gallo and was taken out to start the fourth inning. He has a mild concussion.

■ The Astros failed to hit a homer in Monday’s 6-1 loss to Texas, snapping their franchise-record 19-game streak with at least one home run.

Marlins: Miami-area officials want the U.S. Coast Guard to install lights on the jetty on Miami Beach where former pitcher Jose Fernandez crashed his boat, killing himself and two others on Sept. 25.

Yankees: Shortstop Didi Gregorius extended his hitting streak to a career-best 14 games by going 4 for 4 with a walk in Monday’s 5-3 win at the Angels. His four hits tied his career high.

Orioles: Wade Miley failed to make it out of the third inning in his second straight start Monday. The left-hander gave up six runs in 21/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox. Miley lasted just 22/3 innings against Pittsburgh last week, and his ERA has jumped from 2.82 to 3.97 in his past two starts.

Phillies: Jerad Eickhoff is winless after 13 starts despite giving up four runs in six innings in Monday’s loss at Boston. The right-hander was in line to get the win before Hanley Ramirez homered off Joaquin Benoit in the eighth. Eickhoff entered with the majors’ lowest run support at 2.37 per game.

Angels: Los Angeles said it sold 36,245 tickets to Monday night’s home game against the Yankees, the fewest for a Yankees game in Anaheim in eight years.

Mariners: Danny Valencia and Mike Zunino hit back-toback homers in the eighth inning Monday, the fifth time Seattle has done that this season.

■ Safeco Insurance and the Mariners said they will end their stadium naming rights partnership after the 2018 season. Safeco has held the naming rights for the stadium since 1998, a year before Safeco Field opened.
