Kyle Busch: Fifth win, but none in Cup

Logano another slumping driver who needs victory.

Kyle Busch dominated yet again to claim the NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, winning for the third time this season.

He also has two wins in the Truck Series but has not won in the Cup Series dating to July of last season, a span of 33 races.

“I know a lot of those are the minors, so I’ll take them where I can get ’em as of right now,” said Busch, who starts seventh in today’s Cup Series race. “But certainly there’s going to be a lot more wins to be had on Sundays, as well. I’ve got a long road ahead of me, probably.”

Busch, the 2015 Cup champ, has 175 wins across all three series. He’s 11th in the chase for a spot in the 16-driver, 10-race playoff with eight races left, and could use a victory to clinch a spot.

He drove a Toyota from the pole Saturday and overtook Brad Keselowski, who led 102 of 200 laps but finished fifth after a pit road penalty.

Joey Logano is another driver who badly needs a victory, and he’ll start 13th today on what he considers his home track. He’s from Middletown, Conn.

Logano is seven points outside the 16-driver field. Most drivers qualify with a win, but NASCAR essentially stripped Logano of all benefits that came with his April win at Richmond because of a rear suspension violation.

Since then, Logano has two top-10 finishes in nine races, and four times he has finished 25th or worse.

“Very surprised,” said Logano, who finished second in the playoff last season. “This isn’t what you expect when you start the season. You go out there expecting to win the championship and the playoffs. I still assume we are going to be there.”

Formula One: Lewis Hamilton will start from the pole at the British Grand Prix today at Silverstone, England, as he tries to win his home-nation race for the fourth year in a row. He drove his Mercedes to a record-setting lap of 1 minute, 26.6 seconds in qualifying, just ahead of Ferrari rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton trails Vettel by 20 points for the season lead.

IndyCar: Simon Pagenaud, in a Chevrolet, won the pole for today’s race at Toronto with a track-record lap of 58.9124 seconds on the 1.786mile street course.

Pagenaud, the defending series champ, gave Team Penske its eighth pole in 11 races this season.
