Ace Wainwright (back), OF Fowler (wrist) sidelined.

Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright went on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with back tightness, and St. Louis put outfielder Dexter Fowler on the DL because of a strained left wrist.

Wainwright, a 35-year-old right-hander, is 11-5 with a 4.89 ERA in 20 starts, leading the Cardinals in wins. Wainwright also went on the DL in 2008 for right middle finger sprain, 2011 for Tommy John surgery and 2015 for a torn right Achilles.

Rookie Luke Weaver, who pitched in two games for the Cardinals this season, was scratched from his start for Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday and is expected to be recalled today.

Outfielder Harrison Bader, the Cardinals’ third-round draft pick two years ago, was brought up from Triple-A and made his MLB debut against Colorado on Tuesday night.

Padres: Manager Andy Green said shortstop Erick Aybar has a broken foot and could miss the rest of the season.

Nationals: Stephen Strasburg is expected to make his next scheduled start Friday against the Rockies despite exiting Sunday’s outing after two innings with pain in his forearm. The righthander met with team doctors but did not undergo an MRI, manager Dusty Baker said. Team spokeswoman Amanda Comak said Strasburg was diagnosed with a nerve impingement that is no longer a problem.

Cubs: Right-hander John Lackey on Tuesday became the first Cubs pitcher to hit four batters in a game since Moe Drabowsky on June 2, 1957, at Cincinnati.

Mets: Jacob deGrom on Monday night became the first Mets pitcher to win eight straight starts since Bobby Jones in 1997.

Braves: Atlanta threw six wild pitches in Monday’s 10-2 loss at Arizona, tying a 38-year-old franchise record.

Yankees: Todd Frazier grounded into a triple play Tuesday night in his home debut. Frazier, acquired last week from the White Sox, hit a grounder up the middle with no outs in the second inning. Reds shortstop Jose Peraza fielded it, stepped on second and threw to first. Didi Gregorius, who had been on second base, held up when the ball was hit. He was late to advance, and first baseman Joey Votto’s throw across the diamond caught him in a rundown. But Gregorius was called out for running wide of the baseline. However, Matt Holliday scored before Gregorius was trapped. It was the Reds’ first triple play since 1995, and the first against the Yankees since 2011.

Tigers: A new program will allow fans to enter Comerica Park by using fingerprints to verify their identity. The biometrics scanning system is making its debut this week. Visitors may enroll using a state-issued driver’s license.

Mariners: Seattle signed infielder Danny Espinosa, who was released last week by the Angels. Espinosa hit .209 with a career-high 24 homers in 2016 with Washington but hit just .162 in 77 games with the Angels.

Rockies: Nolan Arenado was named the NL Player of the Week for the period ending July 23. He hit .458 with four homers and 13 RBIs to claim his fourth player of the week award.
