JUSTIN BIEBER CANCELS REMAINDER OF TOUR

- By Jennifer Brett jbrett@ajc.com

As Justin Bieber might say: “Sorry.” He’s canceled remaining tour dates but it’s not clear why.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts,” a statement on his official Facebook page read. “Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them. He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months. He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run. However, after careful consideration, he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Artist John Mayer issued a statement of support on Twitter: “When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going. We’ve lost so many great artists lately. I give Justin (thumbs up) for realizing it was time to call it. You should too.”

TMZ quoted an unnamed source who explained simply that Bieber, who had 14 tour dates left, is “just over it.”

Bieber hasn’t commented directly; his Instagram feed is full of photos of himself with family or friends.

“Let the devil know NOT TODAY!” he posted earlier this month. “The devil has no power when you know the LIVING God! His name is JESUS!! Why worry when you can worship.”

Last year, just before two sold-out concerts in Atlanta, Bieber posted a message on Instagram that suggested fatigue.

“I enjoy meeting such incredible people but I end up feeling so drained and filled with so much of other people’s spiritual energy that I end up so drained and unhappy,” he wrote at the time. “The pressure of meeting people’s expectations of what I’m supposed to be is so much for me to handle and a lot on my shoulders. Never want to disappoint but I feel I would rather give you guys the show and my albums as promised.”

Following the cancellation announcing, his manager, Scooter Braun, posted a message on Instagram saluting Bieber’s past performances and apologizing to fans.

“To Justin who gave it his all night after night thank you. And to those that won’t be able to see it, on behalf of myself, Justin, and the team, we are sorry. That was never our intent,” Braun wrote. “But a man’s soul and well being I truly care about came first and we must all respect and honor that. Justin will be back and I know he looks forward to performing for you and with you all again. One chapter ends and another begins.”
