The Los Angeles Chargers acquired quarterback Cardale Jones from the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday for an undisclosed conditional draft pick.

The 6-foot-5 Jones led Ohio State to a national title in 2014. After one more year with the Buckeyes, he was a fourth-round pick by Buffalo in 2016.

Jones was a project for the Bills, where Chargers coach Anthony Lynn spent last season as running backs coach before his promotion to offensive coordinator. Jones was inactive for 15 games in Buffalo before throwing 11 passes in the fourth quarter of the season finale.

His future in Buffalo was in question after the Bills drafted Pitt quarterback Nathan Peterman in April.

Eagles: Defensive end Marcus Smith, the team’s 2014 first-round pick (No. 26 overall), was released. Smith played in 37 games for the Eagles, with seven starts. The Eagles also traded veteran offensive lineman Allen Barbre to the Broncos for a conditional 2019 seventh-round pick. Barbre started 28 games

the past two seasons in Philadelphia.

Vikings: Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen signed a four-year, $58 million extension, including $34 million in guaranteed money. Griffen, 29, is entering his eighth season and had two years left on his current contract. The new deal keeps him under contract through 2022.

Cowboys: Offensive lineman La’el Collins signed a two-year contract extension worth up to $17.4 million, including $9.5 million in guaranteed money.

Titans: Offensive tackle Dennis Kelly agreed to a multiyear contract extension.

Ravens: Running back

Kenneth Dixon will miss the 2017 season because of a torn meniscus in his left knee. Coach John Harbaugh said Dixon suffered the injury while working out recently with strength and conditioning coaches from Louisiana Tech, where he played for four years. In the meantime, the team signed running back Bobby Rainey, who spent one season with the team in 2012. Rainey, 29, has rushed for 1,053 yards and six touchdowns in five seasons with the Browns, Buccaneers and Giants.

Redskins: Tight end Jordan Reed, safety DeAngelo Hall, linebacker Houston Bates and receiver Kendal Thompson were put on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp. Hall, Bates and Thompson all missed offseason workouts with injuries, but the inclusion of Reed was a surprise. The team said Reed has a toe injury.

Bills: Safety Colt Anderson was placed on the active/ physically unable to perform list because of a foot injury.

Jets: Wide receiver-kick returner Lucky Whitehead was claimed by New York, two days after the Cowboys cut him following a shoplifting charge in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

Browns: Coach Hue Jackson said rookie defensive end and No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett is “ready to go” despite suffering a left lateral foot sprain last month. Jackson also said Cody Kessler will begin camp as the first-team quarterback.

Dolphins: Safety Reshad Jones was placed on the active-non-football injury list. The team didn’t disclose the injury, but it’s not believed to be serious.

Falcons: Wide receiver Julio Jones said he lost his $150,000 diamond earring when he hit a boat wake and took a spill while jet skiing in Lake Lanier, about 50 miles outside of Atlanta. Divers searched the bottom of the lake but didn’t find the diamond.
