Q: What are the Braves or Cobb County planning on doing with the big mound of dirt adjacent to the entrance of the Battery/ SunTrust Park that you can see from 285? Is this area going to be revamped so it’s more aesthetically pleasing? —Dean Drehoff, Alpharetta

A: Yes, eventually that area will be cleared of dirt and developed, Braves spokeswoman Beth Marshall told Q&A on the News. She did not provide a timeline or details of plans. Q: Was the father of Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton a weatherman also? —Eddie Webster, Douglasville A: Minton said her father, who is now 84, was not a meteorologist.

“However, he was in the Coast Guard stationed on the USS Lowe in the Korean conflict,” she wrote via email.

The USS Lowe took fire and had several duties, including rescuing hurt military troops and collecting weather data for meteorologists to forecast weather conditions, she wrote.

Her father’s duties on board included keeping the engines running, but did not involve collecting meteorological data.

After his service was over, Minton’s father worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. in California, where Minton was born and raised. Her father and mother now live near Minton in Atlanta.
