Red Sox put Price back on disabled list

It’s same left elbow inflammation he suffered in spring.

Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price is going back on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his left elbow.

Boston announced the move ahead of Price’s scheduled start Friday night against Kansas City. Rick Porcello started in Price’s place. Eduardo Rodriguez will start tonight and Drew Pomeranz on Sunday in the series finale.

The inflammation is in the same elbow that the left-hander strained during spring training and caused him to begin the regular-season on the disabled list.

Price, who is in the second season of a $217 million, seven-year contract, had made 11 starts since returning from his initial DL stint May 29. He is 5-3 with a 3.82 ERA.

Astros: Outfielder George Springer was placed on the 10-day disabled list with left quadriceps discomfort. Springer is hitting .310 with a team-high 27 homers. Houston also activated left-hander Dallas Keuchel and righthander Will Harris from the DL. Keuchel, who had been out with neck discomfort, hadn’t pitched since June 2 before starting Friday night at Detroit.

Rockies: Left fielder Ian Desmond was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right calf strain retroactive to July 26. It is Desmond’s third stint on the DL this season.

Mets: Infielder T.J. Rivera was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm. Rivera was batting .290, fourth-best among rookies in the NL.

■ Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, plagued this year by hamstring and quad ailments, told the New York Post he plans to lose about 15 pounds this offseason and also to take up yoga. Cespedes said he bulked up too much last offseason.

Nationals: Outfielder Jayson Werth (left foot contusion), who has been on the DL since June 4, still isn’t running. “I think they backed him off from running because it’s not quite healing as fast as we would have liked,” manager Dusty Baker said.

Rays: Tampa Bay continued to bolster its bullpen for the pennant race, acquiring reliever Steve Cishek from the Mariners for right-hander Erasmo Ramirez. On Thursday, the Rays acquired left-hander Dan Jennings from the White Sox. The Rays also added right-hander Sergio Romo in the past week.

Yankees: Rookie right fielder Aaron Judge was back in the starting lineup Friday night, a day after he accidentally lost half of his front left tooth during a home-plate celebration after Brett Gardner’s walk-off homer. “I’m all good,” he said. “Got it fixed.” Judge said he picked up a loose helmet while the Yankees were celebrating the home run when he hit it on a teammate’s back. The helmet bounced back and hit Judge in the mouth. “I tried to rush off the field before any one saw it,” Judge said, “but there’s a lot of cameras around.”

Rangers: Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported that Texas is confident it will get a quality return for pitcher Yu Darvish and is “actively exchanging names with teams.” Darvish is a free agent after this season.

Diamondbacks: Right fielder J.D. Martinez, who started his stint with Arizona in a 2-for-12 slump after being acquired from the Tigers on July 18, is 3 for 8 with three home runs and eight RBIs in his past two games entering play Friday.

Blue Jays: Toronto pitchers entered play Friday with an AL-worst 6.35 ERA in the first inning.
