VINCENT, Patricia Connolly

-

Patricia Connolly Vincent, born in Kingman, AZ, lived in Tucson, August 12, 1927, died peacefully at home, August 2, 1917. She moved to Atlanta after marrying her husband of 55 years, John McLaren Vincent of Atlanta. She completed her undergraduate degree Spring Hill College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She received her Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in English Literature, also Summa Cum Laude. Her years as a teacher of primarily high school junior and senior English classes were some of her most rewarding. Retiring from teaching to focus on nurturing her family, she often volunteered at hospitals, tutored children with physical limitations and helped organize fundraising events to benefit people who had suffered tragedy. Her love of gardening literally grew to the point of often encroaching on neighbors’ properties. In her later years she enjoyed fellowship over lunch with a group of women from her Morningside neighborhood whom she dubbed the lunch bunch. Once a month she played bridge with a group of women she adored. They would begin a bridge game mid-morning and after a plated lunch, they would either resume their bridge game or just engage in lively conversation for the balance of the afternoon. Whether taking courses at Emory University’s continuing education or visiting one on one with friends or former students, she remained engaged in life, interested in current events and always focused on the wellbeing of others.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Nina Vincent Sewell and Jerry L. Sewell; Nieces, Claire Shields May, Antoinette Thomas; Nephew, Charles Vincent; Great Niece and Nephews, Katherine Pittman and husband Arnie, Tom Woodruff and wife Darlene and Lewis Woodruff.
