The Seattle Mariners put Felix Hernandez on the 10-day disabled list Saturday, retroactive to Wednesday, with biceps tendinitis.

Hernandez was scheduled to start Saturday night against the Kansas City Royals. Left-hander Marco Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take his rotation turn.

This is Hernandez’s second trip to the disabled this season. He was out April 26 to June 23 with shoulder bursitis. He is 3-2 with a 4.02 ERA in eight starts since coming off the disabled list. In his previous start Monday at Texas, he allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in 5⅓ innings in a no-decision.

Gonzales was acquired in a July 21 trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder on Tyler O’Neill. He went 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts with Tacoma.

Athletics: Outfielder Matt Joyce received a two-game suspension without pay for directing a gay slur toward a fan in Anaheim and will take part in a public outreach initiative with PFLAG, an organization supporting the LGBTQ community. Joyce’s penalty began Saturday. He said he is “beyond sorry,” and the Athletics also made a statement insisting his language was unacceptable and wouldn’t be tolerated.

Giants: First baseman Brandon Belt was placed on the seven-day concussion list, and the team called up third baseman Pablo Sandoval. Belt was hit in the head by a 78.9 mph curveball from Arizona rookie Anthony Banda on Friday night. It is believed to be Belt’s fourth concussion with San Francisco. Sandoval’s promotion reunites the 2012 World Series MVP with his first team in the majors, when the Giants won three championships.

Yankees: Slumping slugger Matt Holliday could be headed to the disabled list with a sore lower back. Holliday, who was not in the lineup Saturday night, is batting just .136 (11 for 81) with one homer and four RBIs since the All-Star break.

Nationals: Right-hander Max Scherzer (stiff neck) won’t take his regular turn today but is improving and hopes to start Monday against Miami.

Cubs: Third baseman Kris Bryant admits he still is bothered by a nagging injury to the pinkie on his left hand. “It’s something you’ve got to play through,” he said. “It’s probably going to be there for another couple weeks.”

Rockies: Rookie lefthander Kyle Freeland was placed on the 10-day disabled list after leaving his start in the first inning Friday because of a left groin strain. Freeland leads both the team and major league rookies with 11 wins.

Orioles: Right-hander Chris Tillman was sent to the bullpen, where the team hopes he can regain the form that enabled him to anchor the rotation since 2013. Tillman is 1-7 with an 8.10 ERA.

Pirates: Pittsburgh acquired veteran utility infielder Sean Rodriguez from Atlanta for minor league infielder Connor Joe.

Indians: The team honored Hall of Fame player and manager Lou Boudreau with a statue unveiled outside Progressive Field’s main gate. Boudreau, who died in 2001, was player/manager for the Indians’ last world championship team in 1948 and MVP that season.
