Tiny houses returning to Ponce City Market

Tiny houses are a big deal in metro Atlanta.

For two days this month, the second annual Big Huge Tiny House event returns to Ponce City Market with the opportunit­y for visitors to tour four tiny houses. The event also provides informatio­n and education on what it means to live small as well as sessions on global warming and building cities with thoughtful design.

All events are free and open to the public from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 26-27.

Four tiny houses from Shelter Supply, MicroLife Institute, Tiny House Atlanta, and Free Range Tiny Homes will be set up on Ponce City Market on the South Lawn which faces North Avenue. The homes will be decorated by retail shops in Ponce City Market including WilliamsSo­noma, West Elm, Sugarboo & Co., and Citizen Supply.

The South Lawn and parking lot also will host a Sustainabl­e Village with informatio­n from organizati­ons such as Habitat for Humanity DeKalb, EarthShare Georgia, Global Growers, Mitsubishi Electric, Hannah Solar, LifeCycle Building Center, CHARM, Grounds for Empowermen­t, and more.

Two speakers will host free sessions on sustainabl­e living topics at General Assembly (2nd Floor inside Ponce City Market) as follows:

11a.m.,Aug.26: Planting and the Streets with Mario Cambardell­a & Paul Knight

Mario Cambardell­a and Paul Knight discuss building a new model for cities that includes planning for more urban farms to feed our growing cities. 2 p.m., Aug. 26: Drawdown: A Blueprint for Reversing Global Warming with Dr. Katherine Wilkinson

Wilkinson discusses what it will take to reverse global warming. Wilkinson is senior writer at Project Drawdown, where she has focused on bringing to life the New York Times bestseller “Drawdown: The Most Comprehens­ive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming.” (Register at generalass­emb.ly/education/ drawdown-a-blueprint-forreversi­ng-global-warming/ atlanta/40583 for this FREE event).

Guests are also invited to take free tours of the FLATS at Ponce City Market.
