City to buy three new police cars

- CAROLYN CUNNINGHAM FOR THE AJC

The Acworth Board of Aldermen will buy three new police vehicles.

A 2018 Dodge Chargers will be bought from Akins Ford Dodge Jeep Chrysler at the state contract price of almost $23,702 each. The three cars that are on order are replacement vehicles in the patrol fleet with no increase in the size of the fleet, said Acworth Police Chief Wayne Dennard.

Identified as potentially being unreliable, the three 2011 cars will remain in service until the new ones arrive this fall.

Radios, sirens and dash cams in the old cars will be used in new cars. Vehicles that no longer are needed by the city are sold on an online government surplus auction site.
