A man was shot four times after he chased robbery suspects to a Buckhead apartment complex, Atlanta police said.

Three suspects are in custody, and the victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The victim and his friend were at Lenox Square Mall when three men approached them and robbed them, the news station reported. Some time later, the two men saw the suspects and decided to confront them.

Officer Stephanie Brown told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the victim chased the suspects to a parking garage at Alexan Lenox Apartments on East Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead and cornered one of the suspects, police said.

The gunman then opened fire, hitting the victim twice in the leg and twice in the torso.

“The victim’s friend heard the shots, but arrived shortly after the shooting took place,” Brown said. “(He said) that the shooter pointed his weapon at him before placing it in a red bookbag and taking flight toward the construction site” near the apartment.

One suspect was taken into custody near the Lenox MARTA Station. Another was found by a Brookhaven police dog near the construction site, police said.

It is unclear where the third person was arrested. Their names and other details have not been released.
