Friday night lights are back

The Metro PCS Corky Kell Classic high school football marathon moves north today with two games at Georgia State Stadium, the former Turner Field. Back-toback state champion runnerup Roswell, under new coach Matt Kemper, faces South Forsyth. Later, Hillgrove clashes with Buford, now coached by John Ford, who made the move from Roswell last offseason.

Deion goes back to school

Former Florida State and NFL legend Deion Sanders has a new coaching gig — for a high school in Texas. The Hall of Fame cornerback and former Falcon has been hired as the offensive coordinato­r for Cedar Hill Trinity Christian in Cedar Hill, Texas, according to Football Scoop. Sanders’ sons Shilo and Shedeur are players on the Trinity team.

Going long or not at all

Lost in all the hoopla about Aaron Judge’s upper-deck homer Wednesday against the Mets was a more dubious achievemen­t: the Yankee rookie struck out at least once for the 33rd consecutiv­e game, breaking the single-season record for a position player.

Davies takes on senior men

Laura Davies will become the first female golfer to compete in an event on the men’s European Senior Tour when she takes part in the Shipco Masters next year in Denmark. The former topranked female player will play from the men’s tees in the June 1-3 event at Simon’s Golf Club.

ESPN to mark football’s 150th

ESPN has announced a yearlong project on the history of college football, starting in January 2019, as part of the 150th anniversar­y of the sport. In a release Thursday, ESPN says it will use all platforms to tell the story of college football throughout the year. The project will include 150 consecutiv­e days of content in the fall of 2019 to coincide with the football season.
