Five things to know about QB Fromm

- – DAWGNATION.COM

Jake Fromm entered the game for Jacob Eason after he suffered an injury.

Fromm is a freshman quarterback but has a strong recruiting pedigree.

Here’s what you need to know about Fromm:

1. Jake Fromm was a one-time Alabama commit

Before flipping to Bulldogs, Fromm was a member of Alabama’s recruiting class. But after Kirby Smart became the coach at Georgia, he flipped his pledge to the Bulldogs and opted to play for the in-state Bulldogs. Fromm is from Warner Robins and played for Houston County High School.

2. Fromm was a key figure in Georgia’s 2017 recruiting class

Fromm was a major factor in helping the Bulldogs land a number of recruits. He also appeared in two different DawgNation commitment videos, along with 5-star freshman Richard Lecounte. Fromm was the No. 3 quarterback in the 2017 class and the No. 44 player in the country per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

3. Fromm beat out Brice Ramsey for the backup job

Ramsey is a fifth-year senior and had much more time in the Georgia system, but Fromm did enough to earn the nod over Ramsey. Smart always had a plan for Fromm to get in the game.

4. Fromm had a strong spring game

Fromm was 14 of 23 passing for 277 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game for the Bulldogs, and he did look better than Eason. It’s worth mentioning that Fromm did most of his work against the second team.

“He understands the offense very well,” Kirby Smart said in the postgame press conference. “He knows the system, he understands what coverages he’s seeing. I’m excited about Jake Fromm,” Smart said after the spring game.

5. Fromm put up monster numbers in high school

In his high school career, Fromm threw for 12,745 yards and 116 touchdowns in 46 games. Fromm is listed at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds.

Smart on Fromm

“He played in the scrimmages the way he played out there. He knows how to manage the game really well. He had some tempo things out there where we were able to get some juice and some momentum,” the coach said.
