Rockbridge Roadwater project is meeting topic

- PAMELA MILLER FOR THE AJC

The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management will host an informational community meeting 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 to discuss a project to replace aging water mains along Rockbridge Road, from Memorial Drive to South Deshon Road. The community is invited to attend the project kickoff meeting at the Wade Walker YMCA, 5605 Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain.

Scheduled to begin this month, the project is expected to last 20 months. A key component involves replacing nearly seven miles of aging six-inch water pipe with an eight-inch water main. The project is part of DeKalb County’s $1.35 billion capital improvement program, and benefits include reducing water main breaks, accommodating future water capacity needs and improving overall water service.

Residents and businesses may experience interrupted water service. All impacted customers will be notified at least two days prior to a temporary water shut-off. Residents and businesses along Rockbridge Road between Memorial Drive and South Deshon Road should plan for lane closures, congestion or delays. Road closure and detour signs will alert motorists to local traffic restrictions. Lane closures begin in September and will occur daily, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
