Cities offering free debris removal after storm

- KAREN HUPPERTZ FOR THE AJC

As cleanup takes place after hurricane Irma, many Gwinnett cities are offering free yard debris removal:

■ Yard debris in Duluth must be bagged and trees/limbs cut into manageable pieces and placed curbside at homes by 10 a.m. Sept. 16. Duluth staff and volunteers will pick up the debris from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The city’s dumpster at 2450 Chattahoochee Drive will have extended hours through Sept. 16: noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. until 6p.m. Saturday. Volunteers who would like to help with the cleanup in Duluth from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday contact Layla Corley at lcorley@duluthga.net or 770-476-3434. Additional trucks and tow behind trailers would be helpful to haul trees, limbs and yard debris. Questions or concerns: 770-476-3434.

■ Lil b urn’s pub l ic works department is making its way around the city with the chipper. Residents are warned it could take a couple of weeks to get to every city street due to the enormous amount of debris left by the storm. Requirements for limbs the chipper can handle: www.cityoflilburn.com/index.aspx?NID=267.

■ Lawrenceville will collect any small branches, bags of leaves (in appropriate leaf bags) and other debris left in yards by Irma at the curb. Street crews will be coming by to remove those items, most likely, in conjunction with normal trash pick-up and removal times.

■ Loganville residents are being advised to put all limbs at the curb as soon as possible. Loganville’s public works crews will be picking up yard debris at no charge as soon as they are able. If your pickup day has passed, Loganville crews will try to make a second trip through city neighborhoods later this week. Crews unable to get to homes this week will be picked up next week.

■ Peachtree Corners will provide free storm debris curbside collection beginning on Sept. 18. Specific guidelines and restrictions for this one-time service are posted at www.peachtreecornersga.gov.
