Baltimore Orioles minor league pitcher Miguel Gonzalez died Monday in the Dominican Republic from injuries sustained in a Saturday car accident, the team announced.

“Our organization is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Miguel Gonzalez,” executive vice president Dan Duquette said in a statement. “Miguel was beloved by his teammates and coaches in the Dominican Republic. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this very difficult time.”

Gonzalez, 21, was signed as an international free agent in 2014 and spent the last three seasons in the Dominican Summer League, where he appeared in 38 games (13 starts) and posted a 7.65 ERA.

The team held a moment of silence for Gonzalez before Monday’s game against the Red Sox at Camden Yards.

Gonzalez’s death marks the second time the Orioles have seen one of their players die in a vehicle-related accident in the Dominican Republic in the last two years. In January 2016, infielder Ramon Ramirez passed away from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Nationals: Stephen Strasburg’s club-record scoreless streak ended at 35 innings Sunday night against the Dodgers when the righthander allowed a run in the second inning on Logan Forsythe’s double, the first against him since Aug. 19. During the streak, Strasburg allowed 19 hits, walked five and had 42 strikeouts. “It was going to happen eventually,” Strasburg said of the streak ending.

Diamondbacks: Taijuan Walker’s outing Sunday (allowing four runs in five innings in a loss to the Giants) snapped a streak of eight straight games in which Arizona starters gave up two runs or less. Starters were a combined 5-0 with a 1.62 ERA over that stretch.

Astros: Right-hander Lance McCullers (back issues) will not return to the rotation tonight and will instead throw another bullpen in a couple of days before the team decides when he will pitch again.

Athletics: Starter Jharel Cotton was a late scratch Monday night against the Tigers with a right groin strain. Raul Alcantara started in his place.

Blue Jays: Third baseman Josh Donaldson has reached 30 homers for the third straight season after hitting 29 in 2014. He has an AL-high 21 home runs since the All-Star break.
