Temps are up, but tubing season must go on
Troy Murphy with Full Spectrum adjusts the tube discharging snow onto the snow pile taking shape at Stone Mountain on Wednesday. With metro Atlanta temperatures moving toward record highs for October, workers are busy transforming the Laser Lawn at Stone Mountain Park into Snow Mountain. Up to 360 tons of snow per day is now falling at Stone Mountain Park, creating a 400-foot tubing hill that will be open Nov. 18 through Feb. 25. The snow-making process uses water from the nearby lake in the park. Temperatures have surpassed the average high of 74 for this time of year. Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said today will be partly cloudy with a high of 87.
