City starts Rucker Road rebuild this month

- DAVID IBATA FOR THE AJC

Motorists who travel Rucker Road in Alpharetta this month will see the first signs of a nearly twoyear project to rebuild the highway — with the biggest impact to come next summer, when the road will shut down entirely for bridge replacements.

Survey crews are out, digital information signs will soon go up and orange erosion-control fencing and barrels will follow. The work will go until August 2019.

The Rucker Road Corridor Improvement Project extends west from Wills Road to the city limits. It is intended to improve safety and traffic flow and reduce vehicle speeds. Two roundabouts, at Charlotte Drive and at the entrances of the Fairfax and Northfield neighborhoods, are planned, as are pedestrian, streetscape and aesthetic enhancements, officials said.
