Tech, A-back Green ready for Clemson

- — KEN SUGIURA

A-back J.J. Green is braced for No. 7 Clemson, but also excited and unafraid to play at the defending national champions Saturday night.

“I feel like (coach Paul Johnson) is going to have a great game plan for this week, and (Tuesday) was a great day of practice, not even going to lie to you. Guys, they were tuned in, sharp, so (Wednesday) should be even a better day. I’m excited to play them. I know my team’s excited to play them. You don’t get too many games like this.”

Clemson has had the upper hand on Tech the past two seasons, winning 43-24 in 2015 and 26-7 last season, as the Yellow Jackets gained 230 yards of offense in 2015 and 124 last season. They were the lowest and seventh lowest totals for Tech in Johnson’s tenure, according to Sports Reference.com. Clemson’s defense this season appears equally formidable.

“Man, they’ve got ballers all over the field, to be honest,” Green said. “Defense, offense, special teams, they’ve got ballers all over. They’ve got a great D-line, linebacker corps and a great secondary.”

Green recognizes that a win on national television could raise Tech’s profile nationally.

“It would be nice to go out there and get a ‘W’ because then teams are going to be, like, ‘OK, Georgia Tech’s for real,’ ” Green said. “But if they don’t take it seriously – OK, that’s them. That’s not our problem. We’re just going to go out there and do what we do best and fly around, make plays and have fun.”
