Garvey, Morris, John on ballot for Hall

Former stars Steve Garvey, Jack Morris and Tommy John and longtime players’ union chief Marvin Miller are among the 10 names on the ballot for a Hall of Fame election next month.

The candidates were announced Monday. Results will be released Dec. 10 at the baseball winter meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Ted Simmons, Luis Tiant and Alan Trammell also are eligible on the Modern Baseball Era ballot, which recognizes those whose biggest contributi­ons came from 1970-87. A 16-person committee will vote, and it takes 12 votes for election.

Rockies: All-Star closer Greg Holland became a free agent after declining his $15 million player option.

Dodgers: Declined outfielder Andre Ethier’s $17.5 million option but exercised a $9 million option on second baseman Logan Forsythe.

Rangers: Declined their options for slugger Mike Napoli and reliever Tony Barnette, and won’t make a $17.4 million qualifying offer to pitcher Andrew Cashner.

Cubs: Extended qualifying offers to pitchers Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis.

Blue Jays: Jose Bautista’s $17.5 million option was declined.

Royals: Extended qualifying offers to outfielder Lorenzo Cain, first baseman Eric Hosmer and third baseman Mike Moustakas.

Orioles: Catcher Welington Castillo declined a $7 million player option.

Giants: Exercised options of pitchers Madison Bumgarner and Matt Moore.

Nationals: Catcher Matt Wieters is exercising his contract option for next season.

Red Sox: Alex Cora was formally introduced as the team’s 47th manager.

Astros: First-base coach Rich Dauer, 65, is recovering after surgery on a blood clot in his brain.

Twins: Ex-coach Rick Stelmaszek, 69, died of pancreatic cancer complicati­ons.
