DeKalb County deputies have arrested a 17-year-old Stone Mountain resident accused of killing a man in a robbery last month.

Shamar Davis is accused of murder in the death of Justuss Rogers, 26, of Decatur, who police have said tried to drive away from the shooter before crashing his car on Oct. 23.

Rogers was in an argument with several people off South Hairston Road around 8:30 p.m., after he’d come to drop off a woman, a report said. Rogers stayed in his Chevrolet Camaro on Pinnacle Drive while the people he argued with were outside.

Police have now described the altercation as a robbery, but it isn’t clear what the suspect would have been taking.

Rogers and the young man now identified as Davis were both pulling at the driver’s-side door when Davis pulled a gun and started to fire, the report said.

Rogers threw the Camaro in reverse and struck two vehicles in the process. The car came to rest on a curb.

Paramedics took Rogers, who had been shot several times, to Grady Memorial Hospital.

In the car, police found a handgun, though it wasn’t clear whose it was, along with three or four shell casings.

Authorities didn’t say how they connected Davis to the shooting or how his whereabouts Monday (at a Decatur-area business) became known before his arrest.

Davis is also accused of stealing a 2014 Honda Accord while the owner was in a Redan Road convenience store a month before the killing.
