An 18-year-old died after he was shot inside a home during a domestic incident on Thanksgiving, deputies said.

The suspect, a juvenile whose name has not been released by the Forsyth County Sheriff ’s Office, has been charged as an adult with murder and two counts of aggravated assault, a sheriff ’s spokesman said in a news release.

Shortly before 8 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call in the 1200 block of Wondering Way in the southeast part of the county, sheriff ’s spokesman Doug Rainwater said.

They found DreLandon Brown inside with a gunshot wound. Deputies administered first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to Brown, Rainwater said.

Brown was taken to an area hospital where he died, according to the release.

Residents of the home identified the juvenile as the shooter, Rainwater said. He had left the home on foot after the shooting with a 2-week-old baby that reportedly is his son, Rainwater said. The child’s mother lives at the home.

Minutes later, he surrendered after deputies had established a perimeter around the subdivision and found him. He put the child down safely and gave up without incident.

He was then taken to a youth detention center.

After a search, the gun believed to have been used in the shooting was found near a house in the subdivision.

The shooting remains under investigation.
