Council president’s car stolen while idling

Patrol finds Ceasar Mitchell’s Audi in northwest Atlanta.

The past month hasn’t been good for Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell.

First, he finished sixth in the race to be Atlanta’s next mayor.

And last week, police said, his car was stolen from the driveway of his West End home.

Officers were dispatched Wednesday to the 600 block of Queen Street, according to a police incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

About 7:40 a.m., Mitchell’s blue 2009 Audi Q7 was running with the keys inside and the doors unlocked when he heard the engine rev and tires screech, he told police.

When Mitchell went outside, the car was gone.

“The suspects hit the gate column and mailbox of the home as they sped from the scene,” an officer wrote in the report. “One of the door handles came off as a result and was found in the yard of Mr. Mitchell’s home.”

The Georgia State Patrol found the Audi the same day in the 1700 block of Jasmine Circle in northwest Atlanta, Officer Lisa Bender told the AJC.

“The vehicle was processed for evidence and was returned to the owner,” she said.

No one has been arrested in connection with the theft. There were no witnesses or cameras.

Mitchell received about 9 percent of the vote in the Nov. 7 general election.
