Wilkerson won't join Jets in New Orleans
DE reportedly late for meeting; Dallas rules out defenders.
The New York Jets benched defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson for the game against the Saints on Sunday, the latest in what has become a string of discipline issues involving the fran- chise’s highest-paid player.
Co a ch Todd Bowles announced Friday that Wilkerson will not travel with the team — just two weeks after the 2011 first-round draft pick was benched for the first quarter against Kansas City.
“It’s a coach’s decision,” said Bowles, adding it was not injury-related.
Bowles would neither con- firm nor deny the decision to leave Wilkerson home was a disciplinary action. But NJ Advance Media reported Wilkerson was late for a team meeting Friday morning.
Cowboys: Defensive lineman David Irving (concussion) will miss his second straight game at Oakland on Sunday night, and cor- nerback Orlando Scandrick (back) also is out again. Line- backer Justin Durant (concussion) also was ruled out.
Seahawks: Starting outside linebacker K.J. Wright (concussion) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s key NFC West game against the Rams and star middle line- backer Bobby Wagner (hamstring) will be a game-time decision.
Jaguars: Running back Leonard Fournette (quadriceps) missed practice for the third consecutive day and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Houston. Fournette is seventh in the league with 923 yards rushing.
Saints: Wide receiver Ted Ginn (ribs) says he expects to play against the Jets despite being limited in practice. However, starting linebacker A.J. Klein (groin) and defensive end Trey Hendrickson (ankle) were ruled out.
Vikings: Likely may be without a pair of important offensive players Sunday against the Bengals. Left tackle Riley Reiff (ankle) and tight end Kyle Rudolph (ankle) are listed as doubtful.
Raiders: Will be without wide receiver Amari Cooper for Sunday night’s game against the Cowboys. Cooper aggravated a left ankle injury during last week’s loss to Kansas City after sit- ting out the previous game.
Cardinals: Adrian Peterson was placed on injured reserve because of a neck injury, ending the running back’s season after only six games in Arizona.
Chi e fs: Placed center Mitch Morse (foot), who was hurt Oct. 2 against Philadelphia, on injured reserve.
Bills: Left tackle Cordy Glenn (foot, ankle) was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Glenn has missed the past five games.
Panthers: Team founder and owner Jerry Richardson is under investigation for allegations of workplace misconduct. The team said Friday an investigation is underway by a Los Angeles-based law firm.
Late Thursday
Broncos 25, (at) Colts 13: Coach Vance Joseph said quarterback Trevor Siemian was placed on injured reserve after injuring his left shoulder at Indianapolis, where Brock Osweiler came in and sparked a comeback over the Colts (3-11) with a touchdown run and two TD passes.
That didn’t necessarily earn Osweiler the starting job for the Broncos (5-9) down the stretch, however.
Joseph hinted Paxton Lynch could start next week at Washington.
“I’m not sure. We’ve got two healthy guys there,” Joseph said. “Paxton being a young guy, we want to see him play more.”
