Pho Ngon So 1 fails inspection

A Vietnamese restaurant in Clayton County recently failed a routine health inspection for food handling and temperatur­e issues among other violations. Pho Ngon So 1 in Morrow received a score of 62/U on Dec. 27. Scores of 69 or less are considered failing.

According to the report, the inspector observed employees switching between working with raw food and working with readyto-eat food without washing hands and before donning gloves to initiate a task that involves working with food without washing hands. The inspector also saw an employee rinse hands with water and no soap. COS: Educated employee to wash hands with soap and had employee return to sink to wash hands with soap.

An employee was thawing pork in a microwave and then moved it to a walk-in cooler. The pork was at a temperatur­e of 61 degrees. The person in charged was advised on the proper way to thaw meat. Pork was cooled down in the walk-in cooler.

Another food temperatur­e violation involved chicken broth stored on a shelf at a temperatur­e of 98 degrees. The inspector advised staff to heat the chicken broth up to 179 degrees and hold it hot on the stove top.

Several cooked items were stored in the walk-in cooler and reach-in cooler without the proper date marking. Health code rules dictate that cooked foods must be date marked and kept no more than 24 hours.

Although a follow-up wasn’t listed on the report, most restaurant­s with failed scores are re-inspected within 10 business days.
