Villanova still on top, Virginia up to No. 2

Villanova is No. 1, Virginia rises to No. 2 and Purdue moves up to No. 3 in a week of changes in the AP Top 25.

The Wildcats (16-1, 4-1 Big East) moved back into the No. 1 spot last week and received 63 of 65 first-place votes from a media panel in the poll released Monday.

Virginia (15-1, 4-0 ACC) moved up a spot this week and earned a first-place vote after West Virginia’s loss to No. 8 Texas Tech, the Cavaliers’ highest ranking since 2014-15.

Purdue had the other No. 1 vote and climbed two spots for its highest ranking since 2009-10, with Oklahoma and Duke rounding out the top 5.

West Virginia dropped four spots to No. 6 and Michigan State fell five spots to No. 9.

No. 5 Duke 83, (at) No. 25 Miami 75: Gary Trent scored 30 points, Wendell Carter added 15 points and 14 rebounds, and the Blue Devils (16-2, 4-2 ACC) used an 18-0 run in the second half to top the Hurricanes (13-4, 2-3).

No. 10 Kansas at No. 6 West Virginia: Late

No. 23 Michigan 68, (at) Maryland 67: Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman made two free throws with 1.2 seconds left to lift the Wolverines (16-4, 5-2 Big Ten) over the Terrapins (14-6, 3-4). Moritz Wagner had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Michigan.

Women’s Top 25: Louisville is No. 2 in the AP women’s poll for the first time in school history.

The Cardinals (19-0, 5-0 ACC) move up one spot after routing then-No. 2 Notre Dame 100-67 on Thursday to remain unbeaten. It’s the first time Louisville is this high in the poll since first getting ranked in 2006.

Only UConn (15-0, 5-0 American) is higher as the Huskies remain a unanimous top choice by the 32-member national media panel.

Mississipp­i State, Baylor and Notre Dame follow the Cardinals.
