When a man with a gun came to his front door, a south Fulton County resident ran upstairs and jumped out a second-floor window, but it didn’t save him.

Police told Channel 2 Action News the gunman followed him to a neighbor’s house and shot him in the back.

The neighbor identified the victim as Wilbur Wiggins. Wiggins’ condition was not known Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred just before lunchtime Monday along Big Sage Drive. Police said it happened this way:

The doorbell rang and the victim answered it. When he realized his visitor had a gun, he ran upstairs and hurled himself out of a window to get away.

The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said, “I was in the kitchen and I heard this loud bang. And at the same time,” he told Channel 2, “my doorbell starts to ring.”

The neighbor said Wiggins is a nice, hardworking man who has spent the past three decades working for the McDonald’s corporation.

“I’m saying who the heck would want to shoot Wilbur?”

He said he saw the shooter run away but it happened too quickly for him give a description.
