What’s not working around metro Atlanta
Update-Cobb County
Last week, we told you about a major leak in Cobb County.
“Traveling north away from Sandy Springs on Johnson Ferry Road and after crossing the Chattahoochee River into Cobb County, then climbing the hill toward Paper Mill Road, there is water running across the sidewalk and down the gutter into the water drain,” Johnny Holland said.
Cobb officials quickly responded to our request.
“We have been aware of this situation for a number of years and have tested the water periodically in an effort to determine where it’s coming from. Fluoride and chlorine are chemicals that are added to potable water during the treatment process to protect the public – we’ve tested the water on Johnson Ferry several times without detecting either. The Cobb County Marietta Water Authority has a main in the area that carries untreated water (no fluoride or chlorine) from the river to the treatment plant, but it’s nearly 1,000 feet away from the visible leak. We’ve asked them to check it again,” said Communications Manager AikWah Leow.
Leow said the best guess is that it’s a natural spring that may have been impacted a few years back by roadwork or other construction, and has now surfaced.
“I’m aware ofa few similar situations in West Cobb. We’ll continue to monitor the situation,” Leow said.

Anat Halperin wants to see if we can get something done about a leak in the city.
own a small rental on the corner of 344 Fourth Street and Durant Place. A fresh water ser- vice pipe burst in early November on the city’s side of the sidewalk and we have been calling the city daily for a repair. The water is leaking from the edge of the sidewalk and basically flooding my yard and the pavement for months,” Halperin said.
Halperinsaid the constantleak has created a small sink hole in the front yard where the earth has washed away.

New item-Atlanta
Sean Selman wants to know what is going on with a busy street.
“The city came through unannounced two days in December, right before the holidays, and started a paving job along Cardova Drive, Armand Drive, and a few other side streets. They put down some type of top coat or tar throughout the neighborhood, left, and never came back. Lots of cars were in the way, so they zig zagged all over the place. Now whatever they put down is starting to come up in lots of spots and is just a mess,” Selman said.
