Asset forfeiture funds to outfit new police cars

The Lawrencevi­lle City Council recently approved the use of asset forfeiture funds to purchase blue lights and equipment for two new police Tahoes. The blue lights and equipment purchase will cost $21,959 and installati­on of the equipment will run $3,050 for a total of $25,009. The work goes to the lowest of three bidders, West Chatham Warning Devices of Savannah.

Asset forfeiture funds are proceeds collected as a result of criminal activity. The funds result from seizure of cash, real estate, cars, weapons or other equipment.
